A Brunta is a large aquatic mammal, usually ranging in size from 200 to 250 feet long, but some have been seen as large as 500 feet. The Brunta usually weighs in at around 50 tons but the larger specimens have been estimated at weighing over 100 tons. As well as being large in size, the Brunta's "wingspan" usually ranges from 70 to 80 feet wide, although the bigger Bruntas can exceed 90 to 100 feet. The lifespan of these creatures is well over 10,000 years, allowing them to easily survive vast periods of time.
The Brunta does not posess teeth. Instead they have 270-395 plates of baleen on either side of their jaws. Baleen look like long thin teeth placed very close to one another. It is used to catch microscopic organisms swimming in the water and funnel them down into the Brunta's esophagus. The thick hide of this creature allows it the abilities to sink deep down into the oceans, away from any possible threats, but if the Brunta is caught off-guard and attacked it usually requires massive amounts of energy to penetrate this creatures thick blubbery hide. Brunta exist throughout all reaches of the ocean. In the shallow waters near land, Brunta usually travel in pods of 6 to 20 individuals. In deeper reaches of the ocean, groups of up to 60 Brunta can be seen swimming together. The Brunta swim at speeds around 20 knots but are capable of short sprints that can reach in excess of 80 knots. Brunta schools are well-defended with the larger males swimming below and around a knot of young and females. As the seasons change, Brunta migrate accordingly. This generally doesn't disturb the ecosystems they pass through. Brunta give birth to live young. They generaly have one child though twins are possible. The child is cared for until it reaches adult hood, which is approximately 25 years of age. Young Brunta strain their food out of the ocean from birth, so Brunta do not nurse their young. Brunta have been known to mate for life but generally they take many mates throughout their lifespan. The Brunta is usually thought of as a gentle creature. Being that it is so old and somewhat majestic, it doesn't see the need to fight with other creatures, rather than help. If a Brunta is somewhat worried for its young, it can become a formidable opponent. The Brunta can move at incapable speeds in the water, almost as a bird in the air. Their large mouths and lungs can suck up thousands of gallons of water in just a few seconds, and have been recorded spitting it out just as quickly, sending foes and other things spiraling away from them with great force. The Brunta's skin is its most valuable asset. Its so thick, it can withstand any elemental blast, except the most powerful electric blasts. Plasma has been also known to shy away a Brunta, but must also be quite powerful. One would be a fool to provoke one of these beasts in the water. Brunta haven't been studied enough to know if they have any serious weaknesses. Obviously, if you get one out of the water it probably won't do very well considering it's an aquatic creature. |
