Creature Information
Native to the Osperian Forest, the monkey spiders were one of the few species of arboreal spiders that survived the Second Flux. Biologically, they are not that different from the spider species often found prowling dungeons and caves. However, monkey spiders are generally more readily approachable than most spiders. They are quite easily domesticated, probably due to their herbivorous and simple diet of tree sap, and a few adventurers had actually managed to tame monkey spiders into faithful companions.
As with all spiders, they have eight legs, eight eyes and one double-layered mouth. One distinguishing feature of a monkey spider is their long prehensile tail. They can use their tail to grab branches as they leap from tree to tree, or to manipulate twigs as they dig sap out of the trees. They measure on the average of six feet from the tip of the mandibles to the tip of the tail. They usually live in small packs of about six spiders, headed by a senior patron spider. They are diurnal creatures, and they are fond of harmless mischief and tricks. Their coloration vary from bark brown to leaf green. They made their nest in low-hanging spun silk web, and adventurers sometimes found alternative use for abandoned webs as hammock. There are very few cases of monkey spiders attacking people, and even so, most of the cases were probably exaggerated, for few people really understand the nature of these creatures.
