Stat Guide

This section details what have come to be known as "Stats" in Solaris RPG. Stat Attributes are basically how we determine how fast, strong, intelligent, and tough a character is. There are several different types of Stat Attributes in Solaris RPG and they all fall into two primary groups, Primary and Secondary Stats. The Primary group contains Strength, Endurance, Agility, and Wisdom and the Secondary group contains Attack and Defense. All Stat Attributes are completely determined by a characters Job Class. To find your stat points simply go to your characters job class page in the rules and use the chart. After finding a characters base stats using his or her level you may then add any additional stat boost given by the characters items, weapons, armors, etc.

Now we will venture further into the Stat Attributes starting with the Primary group.

The Primary Stat Attributes
The following section will explain what the Primary Stats are, what they do, and how they work. The Primary group is what allows us to determine the Secondary group, with a little help from a characters weapons, armors, and items.

The Strength Attribute (STR)
Obviously enough this attribute literally lets us know how strong a character is and sometimes whether or not they can use certain weapons. It tells us how much weight a character can lift and how much of a chance they would have of overpowering another character during a battle. To get a basic concept of STR points to the ability to lift or move weight simply remember this, for every ONE STR point a character can lift HALF a pound of weight. As one might notice, the higher a character's EXP gets, the more unbelievably powerful and strong they get.

As was stated in the previous paragraph, the STR attribute helps us to determine who is more likely to overpower whom in a struggle of brute strength. Obviously enough, when two characters STR points are very close, nearly 50/50 they will probably be pretty even and more likely to be able to block each others physical blows. However, when one character has an amount of STR greater than another characters such as 70/30, 80/20, or more, they will obviously have the upper hand in physical power. Since Solaris RPG is a turn-based game and based strongly upon player vs player there can easily be an overwhelming amount of arguing. To make things easier, and this goes for all of the following stats as well, when characters are battling and one has at least a quarter more points in a single stat (such as STR) than the other the odds are in their favor automatically. When battles are a little closer, such as 50/50, 60/40, or even 65/35 arguments are very regular occurrences, and that is where staff members come into play. Staff members help deal with the technicalities of battles if the players can't resolve their own issues. Requesting a staff member to solve a problem should be a last resort though.

The Endurance Attribute (END)
Endurance is a measure of the amount of damage or abuse your character can take before submitting to his wounds and losing consciousness (or worse). This is also indicative of your character’s stamina in such strenuous physical actions as running, swimming, and flying.

The most common use for Endurance is damage reduction. When an opponent makes a successful physical attack against you, you subtract your defense rating (endurance plus defense rating of an armor) from the total physical damage. The result is the damage you take. If the result is zero or negative, you take no damage. The endurance stat affects energy damage somewhat differently, and the difference between a physical attack and an energy attack is described in the Fighting Rules.

The Agility Attribute (AGI)
Agility determines many aspects of your character: reaction time, coordination, speed, and reflexes. When characters are battling and one has at least a quarter more points in a single stat than the other the odds are in their favor automatically. For example, a character with higher agility swings faster, dodges faster, and runs faster than a character with lower agility. Another example, similar to the comparison of STR points to lifting pounds of weight above, for every 15 AGI points, a character can run 1 mph. This means someone with 225 AGI can run 15 mph. So, a character first starting out, fresh from Earth (a human), would have 250-700 AGI points depending on their job class in Solaris RPG.

If one character has double, triple, or more than his opponent’s agility, he can be assumed to easily dodge most of the attacks of the clearly slower advisory. It is bad role playing to never take a hit, even if your opponent has only a mere fraction of your speed, though your character will obviously take less hits. Play responsibly.

The Wisdom Attribute (WIS)
Wisdom is one of several attributes not employed in battle to the same extent as Strength, Agility, and Endurance. It is basically a measurement of the character’s intelligence and common sense as well as perception and the ability to learn. Finally, certain advanced technical weapons require a certain wisdom score to be able to be wielded correctly.

Wisdom might seem to have fewer applications in battle than the other stats, but keep in mind that a much wiser character might be able to quickly learn his opponent’s tactics and begin to anticipate his moves and a wiser character also has a quicker mind and is more capable of out-smarting his opponents during a battle. At dramatically high levels of wisdom points some characters even develop the ability of Mind Control, which is all in all and tricky subject but very interesting to see in proper use.

The Secondary Stat Attributes
The following section explains what the Secondary Stats are, what they do, and how they work. These stats are actually less attached to a character than the Primary group and are determined by a combination of specific stats in the Primary group with a characters weapons and armor.

The Attack Attribute (ATT)
Attack attribute is a weapon-only stat. This, combined with your strength is the total physical damage you can deal with a single attack. See the Item Rules for more information.

The Defense Attribute (DEF)
Defense is similar to the attack attribute, but an armor-only stat. This combines with your endurance stat to form your total defense. See the Item Rules for more information.

The PL, HP, LVL, and EXP Attributes
Most people can probably easily guess what EXP, PL, LVL and HP are and that's why they were tacked on to the very bottom of this guide, but we will explain them just in case. These really aren't Stat Attributes, not as much as the previously listed attributes are, but they are the most important numbers in the game.

The Experience Level (EXP)
The experience level of a character basically tells us how much experience they've gained throughout their journey in Solaris. Characters gain EXP from doing just about anything. The EXP level sets the bar for all of a characters other stats and the higher it goes, the more powerful a character becomes.

The Level (LVL)
Levels are simply points of achievement in a characters development. For more information on leveling please visit the Level Guide located in the rules. There are 100 levels in Solaris RPG, and each time a character gains a level they are one step closer to reaching the top. Becoming level 100 is a great achievement in Solaris RPG, as it is in any other game. The more levels a character gains, the more perks and special abilities he will unlock for himself.

The Power Level (PL)
The Power Level of a character basically lets us know what they are capable of in Solaris RPG, from being able to fly, shoot energy from their bodies, and many other facinating things. The higher a character's PL the better. It is what the entire game revolves around. A being's power level is determined by its level and job class and by how much experience he has had in Solaris RPG.

The Hit Points (HP)
The Hit Points of a character let us know how much of a beating it can take before it dies. Once a character's HP drops to 0 its off to Perma Tarn, which is basically where the dead go in the Solaris RPG realm. A being's HP is determined by his experience level and job class.
